A general rule of thumb is to budget 10–15% of your total trip cost for tipping. The amount can vary depending on the number of crew members, the length of the trek, and the size of your group. Here’s a suggested tipping breakdown per group, per day:
Recommended Daily Tipping (Group Totals):
- Lead Guide: $20–$30 USD
- Assistant Guide: $15–$25 USD
- Cook: $15–$20 USD
- Porter: $7–$10 USD
Example: For a 7-day climb with 2 guides, 1 cook, and 10 porters, the total group tip may range between $700–$1,000 USD, to be distributed among the crew.
Tipping Ceremony: A Meaningful Tradition
