The best time to visit Materuni Waterfalls is during the dry season, from June to October and mid-December to February. During these months, the trails are less slippery, and the views of the waterfall are clearer. However, the area is lush and beautiful year-round, especially just after the rainy season when the waterfall is at its fullest.
Materuni Waterfall is approximately 2–2.5 hours’ drive from Arusha, depending on traffic and weather conditions. Located near the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, this day trip offers scenic views of the countryside along the way, including banana plantations and small coffee farms.
A moderate level of fitness is sufficient. The walk to the waterfall is around 45 minutes each way and includes some uneven terrain and gentle slopes. Most visitors in average health are able to complete the hike comfortably. Wearing good walking shoes and bringing water is recommended.
Yes! The pool at the base of Materuni Waterfall is clean and inviting. You’re welcome to take a refreshing swim, especially on warm days. Just remember to bring swimwear and a towel if you plan to take a dip.
The Materuni coffee experience is completely hands-on. You’ll join local farmers in harvesting, roasting, grinding, and brewing coffee the traditional Chagga way accompanied by fun singing and dancing. This cultural interaction is authentic, immersive, and supports local families directly.
We recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes, a rain jacket (weather can change quickly), sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, swimwear, a towel, and a camera. The path can be slippery after rain, so hiking sandals or sneakers with grip are ideal.
Yes, this tour is family-friendly and children are welcome. The short hike and interactive coffee-making session are engaging for all ages. If traveling with small children, our guides will adjust the pace accordingly.
On clear days, you can enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro from various points around Materuni village. The best chances of seeing the mountain are early in the morning or later in the afternoon, when the skies tend to be clearer.
Our package includes round-trip transport from Arusha, all entrance and village fees, professional English-speaking guide, Chagga village tour, coffee-making experience, local lunch, and a guided hike to the waterfall. There are no hidden costs
