Kilimanjaro Group Climb 8 Days Lemosho Route Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Tanzania

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a Hike Kilimanjaro Ltd representative will greet you and transfer you to Planet Lodge in Arusha or a similar lodge. After check-in, you’ll have a full briefing with your guide, including a gear check to ensure you’re ready for the trek.

Note: The pre-trip briefing will take place at our office if you arrive before 4:00 PM, and at your hotel if you arrive later in the evening. Please ensure you bring a copy of your passport and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy to the meeting. These documents are required for us to obtain your trekking permits and complete necessary documentation for the trek.

Please also note that hotel check-in is from midday (12:00 PM). If your flight arrives early in the morning, kindly let us know in advance. We can arrange a day-use room for you, or, if you prefer, we can organize some short activities to keep you engaged until your check-in time.

After breakfast, we depart Arusha and drive to Lemosho Gate (approx. 3-4 hours). Upon arrival, registration with the park authorities is completed, and we begin our trek through the lush rainforest, home to black and white colobus monkeys. We gradually ascend to Mti Mkubwa Camp for our first night on the mountain.

The trail leads us out of the rainforest and into the heather and moorland zone. We ascend steadily, with amazing views of the Shira Plateau. By afternoon, we reach Shira Camp 1, where you can relax and enjoy the expansive views.

Today’s trek takes us from Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) as we explore the vast Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on Earth. The route is a gentle walk eastward across open moorland meadows, offering expansive views and a relatively easy pace for acclimatization. In the afternoon, there is an optional hike to Shira Cathedral, located at the base of the Lent Hills. This less-traveled site offers excellent opportunities for acclimatization, with a variety of scenic walks around the hills. The gradual elevation gain and open landscapes make this day both relaxing and beneficial for altitude adjustment.

Today is a key acclimatization day. We ascend to Lava Tower for lunch at 4,630 m before descending to Barranco Camp, located below the Barranco Wall. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to the altitude.

We start the day by conquering the impressive Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding scramble with breathtaking views. We then continue through alpine valleys to Karanga Camp. The afternoon is for rest and acclimatization.

After a leisurely breakfast, we ascend to Barafu Camp, our base camp for the summit push. We arrive early to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.

We begin our summit attempt around midnight, climbing slowly but steadily toward Stella Point (5,739 m) and onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking unforgettable photos at the summit, we descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Millennium Camp.

On your final day, you’ll descend through the lush montane rainforest, soaking in the sights and sounds of Kilimanjaro’s vibrant lower slopes. The trail can be muddy and slippery, especially if it has rained, so trekking poles and caution are advised.

Once you arrive at Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your well-earned summit certificate from the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities a proud moment marking your successful climb to Uhuru Peak. Your Hike Kilimanjaro driver will be waiting to greet you and transfer you to Mweka Village, where you’ll enjoy a freshly prepared picnic hot lunch en route.

After lunch, continue the return journey to either Arusha or Moshi. This marks the perfect time to reflect on your unforgettable experience and celebrate your accomplishment of conquering Africa’s highest peak.

After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure.

Note:
Check-out time at the hotel is 10:00 AM. If your flight is scheduled for the evening or night, you may book a day-use room to rest and freshen up before your departure. Please inform us in advance if you would like us to reserve a room for you.

On August 12, our Kilimanjaro adventure began with eight of us. Accompanied by our guides Richard, Keddy, Innocent, and “Doc” Florian, as well as a 28-person crew from Hike Kilimanjaro, we set out from Lemosho Gate on the 8-day Northern Circuit route. And those days turned out to be unforgettable. We were well taken care of, well-provided for, and well-supported; everything was perfectly organized. Every morning, we were sent off on our hike with dancing and singing, and welcomed just as warmly upon arrival at camp. The cook, Godson, whipped up fantastic meals, and I’m convinced that his divine soups and the morning porridge played a major role in our success in reaching the summit. The route offered stunning scenery and, due to its length, was ideal for acclimatizing to the altitude. In the evenings, there were medical check-ups, so we always felt safe. Thank you for letting us be part of the Hike Kilimanjaro family during this time, and thank you for your motivation and warmth. We highly recommend this trip with you—every detail was taken care of, even the hot water bottle in the evening.

Top tier team to help you climb Mount Kilimanjaro. We did the 7 day Lemosho route. We met with Florian and Keddy the day before the hike and they helped us get deeper understanding of the route, conditions and expectations. They also checked our gear to make sure we had everything we needed. For our family of 5, we had 3 guides ( Florian, Keddy and Inno )and 18 other support staff. The whole team was very kind, polite , always happy to help and very professional. They went above and beyond to help us get through the ups and down of the hike. They also did health checks including oxygen levels and looked out for other symptoms each day. They supported us and made sure we had an amazing , once in a lifetime experience reaching the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. The whole team of Hike Kilimanjaro gets 5 stars and they come highly recommended.

Highlight of our trip It's a shame I'm only posting this review now, but we completed the 7-day Lemosho Route trek with Hike Kilimanjaro (formerly Landside Adventures) in October 2025, and it was easily the highlight of our entire trip to Tanzania. From the very beginning, the experience was exceptional. We worked with Maxon during the booking process, and he was always responsive, professional, and easy to work with. Any questions we had were answered promptly, making the planning process smooth and stress-free. The night before our trek, Maxond, as well as our guides, Keddy and Florian, met us at our hotel to review our gear, conduct safety checks, and answer any last-minute questions. Their professionalism immediately gave us confidence that we were in good hands. Throughout the trek, Keddy and Florian were outstanding. They paced us perfectly, constantly checked on our well-being, and made sure we were acclimatizing safely. Their knowledge of the mountain, wildlife, terrain, and altitude-related challenges was impressive, and goes to show the level of knowledge required to be a guide. Beyond being excellent guides, they were also incredibly fun to spend time with. We shared some of the best laughs of our entire trip thanks to them :) One thing that exceeded all expectations was the food. Every meal felt restaurant-quality, and the portions were incredibly generous. A huge thank you to Chef Godson, who consistently delivered delicious meals despite the challenging mountain environment. We were also fortunate to be supported by an amazing porter team: KC, Meschak, Hermann, Geoffrey, Victor, George, and Joseph. KC was incredible, especially during some of the tougher night hikes and on summit night, where his support made a huge difference. Meschak's positive energy was contagious and helped keep spirits high throughout the trek. Hermann's constant smile brightened every day on the mountain. Geoffrey provided exceptional service at camp, always making us feel welcome and cared for. Victor, George, and Joseph were always ready to lend a hand whenever we were moving a little slower or needed extra support. Safety was clearly a top priority for the entire team. Health checks were conducted every evening to monitor our vitals and ensure everyone was acclimatizing properly. This level of care gave us additional peace of mind throughout the climb. Thanks to the excellent guidance, pacing, and support from the entire crew, we successfully reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Summit night was one of the most challenging experiences we've ever faced, but it was also one of the most rewarding. Standing at the top above the clouds over Africa is a memory we'll never forget. The Lemosho Route treated us to some of the most breathtaking scenery we've ever experienced, and the support from the entire Hike Kilimanjaro team made the journey even more memorable. If you're considering climbing Kilimanjaro, we very much recommend Hike Kilimanjaro (formerly Landside Adventures). Their professionalism, attention to safety, incredible staff, and genuine care for their clients made this an unforgettable adventure and one of the best travel experiences we've ever had.

Professional Team, Unforgettable Kilimanjaro Climb We completed the 8-day Northern Circuit route on Kilimanjaro, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The entire team was highly professional, experienced, and incredibly well organized throughout the trek. Our guides inspired confidence at every stage — they were knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly very familiar with the mountain, which made us feel safe and well looked after at all times. Communication in advance of the trip was also excellent. Everything was handled clearly and professionally, which made the preparation process very smooth and gave us a good feeling even before the climb started. On the mountain itself, the whole team did a fantastic job and contributed to making this such a special experience. The support, friendliness, and overall organization were truly impressive. All in all, it was a wonderful and unforgettable journey, and we would highly recommend this team to anyone planning to climb Kilimanjaro.

Amazing Kilimanjaro & Safari Experience – Highly Recommend We booked our trip through Aventure Atlantis with Jean Ricard, who partners with Hike Kilimanjaro as the local outfitter in Tanzania—and honestly, everything was outstanding. From the moment we were picked up at the airport, to the hotel meet-and-greet with the team, to all transportation for both Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro, everything was smooth, well organized, and stress-free. What truly made the experience exceptional were our guides—Faza, Keddy, and Innocent. They were professional, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. Our group had very different needs and abilities, and they handled it all with care and confidence. Even with the intense rain we faced, we always felt safe, supported, and focused on reaching the summit. A huge shoutout also goes to the real heroes of the trip—the support staff. The porters carried unbelievable loads (tables, chairs, full camp setups!) to make our experience comfortable every single day. And the food… absolutely incredible. The chef delivered meals that felt Michelin-quality, right in the middle of the mountain. We truly ate like kings and queens. One downside we noticed is that the mountain can be quite dirty. However, Hike Kilimanjaro made a real effort to minimize our impact, and we truly appreciated that. I hope more companies and guides follow their example and take responsibility for preserving this incredible place. Special mention to Maxxon as well—awesome energy and support throughout the trip! To top it all off, they also organized our safari after the climb. We visited Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara, and each park absolutely delivered. Just be ready for some long (but worthwhile!) hours in the safari jeep. All in all, an unforgettable adventure. I highly recommend Hike Kilimanjaro if you’re looking for a real, authentic experience in Tanzania.
